	v. 1.01

Created for MultiColoredWiz's 528 Hour Contest (2004, Topic: Simulation)

NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE THIS TEXT FILE FROM THE ZIP CONTAINING OHRDATE.RPG IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISTRIBUTE MY GAME!

*****Introduction

Thanks for downloading my game! I have done my best to make this an enjoyable (and addicting!) experience for you, and I hope you enjoy playing it! First off, some stuff you probably already know but I'm going to tell you anyway! Whoo ha!

To play this game, you'll need the OHRRPGCE's Game.exe file, which can be found at www.hamsterrepublic.com, OHRRPGCE tab, Downloads. Simply hit the game.exe file, and choose OHR-Date from the list! Easy, huh?

OHR-Date is a real-life simulator where you go to school, hang out at places, and court various girls. It has roughly around 1-3 hours of playtime, depending on whether or not you get every girl at the end. The game wins when you successfully kiss the girl on a date. Nope, no hentai for all you perverts out there, sorry, against my code of ethics. XD

Also, for the record, I made this game without ever having played any other dating games, so if it sucks...sorry! I was making it up off the top of my head...he he.

The game is relatively simple to play, but difficult to master. The following readme gives you tons of hints, as well as the basic instructions on how to play. It is recommended you read everything here to maxamize your gameplay experience!

Ok, on with the show!

*****Controls

Movement is like every other OHR game, simply press right, left, up, or down to move in the various directions. Press enter or space to talk to various people, and press escape to get the menu. Note that the only three options you'll probably use in the menu are Items, Save, and Quit. Remember: this isn't an RPG. :P

Here are the remaining controls. They are semi-explained in game, but this'll make it even easier!

The default number in the corner is your energy. After pressing any command, you will return to energy. Energy is requried to do basically everything except buy and give gifts, so it's pretty darn important!

**On the World Map, Press the key in the [ ]s to activate that command.

[G] - View various "points" gained by different girls. The more points, the more stuff you can do with them! Displayed in the order of: Julia, Auora, June

[C] - View your charm level. Default starts as 5.

[I] - View your intelligence level. Default starts at 5.

[S] - View your strength level. Default starts at 5 (NOTICE A PATTERN?!!?)

[M] - View your current MOOLAH. Default starts at 100.

[R] - Run. Running DOUBLES your speed, but it also consumes 1 energy every 20 steps or so, so running everywhere isn't a great idea. Press [R] again to deactivate it.

[E] - View your energy. By default, energy automatically shows in the corner. So...yeah.

[D] - View days. 1 is Sunday, and so on, all the way up to 7, which is Saturday.

**When Talking to Girls

See the numbers in the pink boxes? Those do the various activity. After you choose it, you can see the benefits/losses that occure by doing that activity. You can then choose if you want to continue. Press "Enter" to quit (note: Due to my crappy plotscripting, you may have to press enter more then once.)

**TEH STOAR LOL

The number in the corner is now money, w00t. Buy crap by pressing the number of the item them OMFG OMFG choose if you want to buy it. You can give these items to girls later, you crazy wombat.

**Various Activities

If you need to recharge your energy, just run back home and go to bed. If not, there are a lot of places to visit (described later), so basically just go up to what you want to do and press enter and you'll do it. Easy, right? Any moron could figure it out.

*****Locations

Here is a list of ALL the locations in the game, and what they basically do.

*Your Home - Go to the bed to sleep and recharge energy. Note that the day will end, so NPCs will respawn in different places as well as the girls may or may not be where they were the previous day.

*School - You have to go here every school day. It consumes 25 energy (leaving you with 75). Here you can talk to girls, and do various activites. Head left and out to go to PE (+5 Strength). Head Right and out to go to Comp Class (+5 Int). Talk to the stationary guy in green to ditch school! (+5 Charm)

*Library - Here there are various activites to boost your intelligence, but this may also damage charm. Choose the bookshelves to read, the books on tables to study, or the computers to make a game.

*Gym - Here are various strength boosting exercises. Choose the treadmill to run, the weights to work out, or run up top to go to Tae-Kwon-Do class.

*Arcade - Here are various charm boosting exercises, except they are expensive. Walk up to the Neo-Geo machines to play them, the bottom side of the air hockey table, or step onto the DDR pad.

*Job - Here you can earn money based on your stats. Choose the leftmost person to tutor (Int based money), Middle to be a salesperson (Charm based money), or the right person for manual labor (Strength based money). The guy in the bottom left will give you unemployment insurance (+$750 a day) if you have 500 of each stat.

*Store - Here you can buy stuff with your shinies...er....money. Talk to the saleswoman to buy stuff. Easy, right? Yeah, that's what I thought.

*Various Houses - This is where the girls live. You can visit them after you have enough points (ie are a good enough friend)

*****General Goal

Your goal is simple: Get enough points to take a girl out on a date and kiss her. Sounds easy? Yeah, right, the girls in this game are way tougher then your regular high-school broad. These girls need stuff! Here is the basic points RUNDOWN for your cheating pleasure. :P

0-999 - Can talk to them at school.
1000-4999 - Can talk to them outside school. You also can give them one gift a day.
5000-14,999 - Can talk to them in their homes. Can give two gifts a day.
15,000-29,999 - Can ask them out on dates. (Dates cost $2,000 as well as the remaining day's energy)
30,000 + Special Requirement - Can kiss on date (win game)

WARNING: QBASIC only allows globals to reach 32767. If you pass this in points, your points will reset to negative (ie -32767, etc.) Though there IS a script built in to help fix this (at the "sleep" part, it checks if your points are negative and sets that number to positive) it is best that, when you hit 30,000 points, you stop doing point-gaining activities and focus on dating.

Yeah, that's it. You also should get as rich as possible, because running out of money is totally uncool.

*****Little Details You May Notice

Here are a few things I'd like to comment on, because I spent a buttload of time on them and I want them to be noticed. :)

*NPC's say over 200 different things - Both the Male and the Female NPC's randomly select one of 100 different things to say everytime you talk to them. These things may or may not be useful in dating.
*Girls say over 300 different things, EACH - When you choose "Talk," you'll get a random text. 90% of the time these are helpful in wooing the lady later, especially if you want to learn her taste in gifts.
*NPC placement changes daily - Every day, certain tags turn on, and others turn off. That means the girl who was out yesterday may not be out today. This problem is solved when you can go in their house (you can chat with them whenever you want, but it costs 5,000 points, so....)
*On Keypress menus and giving gifts is...much harder then it looks - Just wanted to point that out. :P
*This game started production a week into the contest, so I actually had only three weeks to make it, contrary to four. - Tjord.

*****Tips and Tricks

OHR-Date offers a unique style of gameplay, so you'll need to develop your own style when playing determining how you will win. As you might guess, stockpiling one stat isnt' really a great idea, as most stats have a major weakness. Intelligence pays well, but costs lots of energy and is near-useless when wooing the girls. On the other hand, Charm is amazingly good at wooing women, but costs lots of money to work and is a poor paying job. Strength is decent overall, but if you use only it, prepeare for a long game.

Some stuff you might want to consider when playing:

*Talk to each NPC many times - You'll learn a lot of things about the various characters by talking to NPCs, and it is FREE, so you might as well.
*Talk to the girls in every various stage - Since there is no real way to advance the plot, you can see your relationship advancing by talking to the girls as they get to like you more. Also, the more the like you, the greater chance you'll hit a "+X points gained!" text box. For example, when chatting in their home, you have about a 80% chance to hit one of those, while at school you have about a 40-50% chance. Also, the girl's reveal their true personallities through these convsersations, as well as tell you their specific tastes in gifts.
*Write down gifts and stuff - When the girls tell you stuff about what they like, be sure to write it down! Each girl has five items they really like as gifts. The other four will only give half point values when given, so they aren't worth it. Be smart and choose their gifts wisely! Listen to what they have to say, and you'll win!
*SPOILER: The special even is to give the girl a diamond on the date. Just thought you'd like to know.
*Have fun! - Don't fret, there is no way to lose at this game! Really! And considering you just have to go to the house to recharge...it's easy! :P

*****Secrets

There are two secrets in game. One is Sound Test mode, where you can unlock all the songs with the Boom-Box. I'm not going to tell you how to get it, but I'll hint that is it somewhere in the town.

The other secret is the test-cheat script on an NPC that I used to try out my dating scripts. It is hidden...decently. If you find the hints you'll be able to find it, but you don't really need it.

*****What'll be in the next update?

Hmm...a few things. First, better drawings probably, once I have more then 15 minutes to draw and color them (and I get a scanner in my room...:P). Then, the points system for when/when they don't let you in the house will probably become unique for each girl (ie Auora may be easier to talk too out of school, but it'll cost more points to date her, etc.). A graphical boost for the indoors wouldn't hurt, but it does its job so...yeah, no complaints. Also, I plan on implimenting a function that when you gain points with one girl the other girls lose a fraction of the points you gain (jelousy, etc.).
